Alexandre Geniez wants to take another step in his development. The transition from FDJ to Ag2r La Mondiale has been an important change in the career of the Frenchman who does not hide his desire to improve.
At 28years of age, Geniez hopes that the move will bring his career back on track. After a difficult start at Skil-Shimano, he moved to FDJ in 2013 and immediately took a big win at the Vuelta a España – a feat he repeated this year. He also showed grand tour potential with a ninth place finish at the Giro d’Italia in 2015. Being a complete rider with good climbing and TT skills, Geniez has shown that he can win races as complicated as the Tro-Bro Léon with its gravel roads, one of the most unusual races on the international calendar.
Forced to withdraw from the Giro in 2016, Geniez hopes to be back in Italy.
"I wait to see the proposal of the team," he tells Dauphiné Libéré when asked about whether he will god for GC or stage wins. Of course, everything will depend on the choices of Romain Bardet who has expressed his desire to do the Giro too but for Geniez the first goal is "to deliver a good performance in the Giro,” regardless of the role.
“I'm coming into my best years,” he added. “I'm 28 years old and after seven years among the professionals I must still grow, setting new goals to continue to improve."
