Due to safety hazards, Stage 7 of Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2015 initially scheduled to run from Shah Alam to Genting Highlands on March 14, has had to be re-routed to a hilltop finish in Frasers Hill.
In announcing the change, LTdL technical director Geoff Kronenburg said tonight that the decision was made in view of heavy construction works at the scheduled finish venue in Genting Highlands.
The stage will now start in Shah Alam as planned, but finish in Frasers Hill in a route covering 177 kilometres.
"We had been in close contact with Genting throughout and they wanted us there, but due to the safety concerns, I decided that it would be too much of a safety risk to the riders," said Kronenburg.
"We see this route change as a positive one as it now opens up the race to different sorts of climbers and the general classification will now be open to many more riders."
The Genting Highlands stage has always been the queen stage of the race, except in 2008, saw the stage finish at Frasers Hill.
