Yesterday the International Cycling Union notified the AG2R team of the adverse analytical finding of Sylvain Georges.
This result followed the analysis of a urine sample after a control on May 10th, during the ongoing Giro d'Italia. The test indicated the presence of Heptaminol, a prohibited substance by the World Anti-Doping Code. In an official press release, the team has subsequently announced the immediate suspension of the rider, pending further tests and a decision by the French Cycling Federation and the UCI.
“In accordance with our commitments and regulations in force, we immediately decided to exclude Sylvain Georges from any competitions until the French National Federation and the UCI open disciplinary proceedings,” a statement from the team read.
The AG2R team’s manager, Vincent Lavenu, added: “Unfortunately, we heard a few hours ago the adverse analytical finding of Sylvain Georges. We are obviously saddened by this news, which penalizes the whole team, both in terms of image and in a sporting point of view. We remain confident in the fight against doping. The AG2R LA MONDIALE team will continue to do his best to defend the ethical values that have to be the rule in the high level sport.”
