Today Cult Energy Pro Cycling took part in the 191 kilometer long and hilly Italian one-day race, Trofeo Laigueglia in Liguria on the Eastern seaboard of Italy and the first victory of the season was within reach for the German rider, Linus Gerdemann.
 

Four escapees, Jonathan Paredes, Nicola Gaffurini, Adriano Brogi and Jerome Cousin launched an early attack and worked up a solid lead to the chasing peloton. However, the breakaway group was swept up with 38 kilometers to go of the race and the race could start all over. Multiple counter-attacks were launched and Cult Energy Pro Cycling’s Linus Gerdemann escaped from the small bunch with 6 kilometers to go. Unfortunately, Lampre were pulling hard but they did not manage to catch him before the final 100 meters of the race. In the small bunch gallop, teammate Rasmus Guldhammer finished 8th. Davide Cimolai won the race.

“It was unbelievably close. We had the win practically within reach but sometimes luck is against you. However, I’m proud to see both Rasmus Guldhammer, Linus Gerdemann and Fabian Wegmann in the first group across the finish line in a very hard race like this. It means we’re up there with the best in the pack and I can’t wait to move on to the next races. Surely, this kind of experience motivates the riders,” concludes Skelde after the very close race.
