Orica-GreenEDGE rider Simon Gerrans has clear ideas about the nature of his 2014 ambitions.
The goal is to be competitive throughout the season, from January with the Tour Down Under, until September with the world road championship in Ponferrada, Spain, obviously passing through the Ardennes Classics and the Tour de France, which saw the Australian win a stage and wear the yellow jersey for two stages.
Gerrans is also keen to do well in the early races of the season on his home turf, starting with the National Championship:
"It's no secret that the national championships are a big goal for the team and I have to admit that I'd like to dress up in the yellow and green jersey,” the Australian admitted to Biciciclismo.com. “My season is structured around four objectives and the first is the summer's racing in Australia. [...] the second will be the Classics, especially the Ardennes. The third is the Tour de France. Last year we got to the top and in July we will have great ambitions."
The season finale will then be devoted entirely to the quest for the rainbow jersey which has a route suited to the former Team Sky rider:
"Whatever the amount of fuel that I will have left in the tank in the last months of summer, I will focus on the world road championships at Ponferrada."
