Floris Gerts is a very talented young Dutchman who has now graduated from BMC’s development team to their pro team. The 23 year old spoke to Cyclingnews about his first year as a pro and adjusting to the WorldTour pace.
"In the WorldTour the difference between the riders is also very big, the level is very high and completely different to what I am used to," Gerts told Cyclingnews.
Gerts spoke of how honoured he was to be riding on one of the world’s bets teams and he spoke about what his job was at the recent Tour Down Under, his first WorldTour race, where helped set Richie Porte up for second overall and a stage win.
"It's already an honour to ride in the team with them and ride in the selection before the Tour Down Under so that was in the first place really special," Gerts said. "For me the goal was to help them and adapt to the group and find my place in the team."
Gerts said he was really surprised with how well he went in 2015 and wants to win a race for his new team in his first year as a pro in 2016.
"You can never say before what you are going to reach but it would be nice to win a race, it doesn't matter which level it is, that would be good."
