After the crash in the Tour of Switzerland and missing the Tour de France Robert Gesink will start in the Tour l'Ain. This French race consists of four stages and is an important measurement for Gesink.
"Tour de l'Ain is going to be an important test whether I can start in the Vuelta or not. If your recovery isn’t good you can’t go to such a big race. I hope to find out whether it is possible to go to the Vuelta to support Steven. "
The past days looked positive for Gesink.
"The last few days in Girona actually went better than expected. After a very difficult time in the US with a lot of changes in my training after the head-concussion. I was very tired and noticed that I often could train only for two days in a row and after that I had to rest a few days. Very frustrating to constantly having to adjust the training schedule, but it’s common after a concussion. Dropping behind on my training schedule means I trained less in preparation for the Vuelta."
