Androni Giocattoli published a press release about Davide Appolonio and Fabio Taborre. These riders were tested positive for EPO. Because of a second doping case in a 12 month period, the Italian team has been suspended. Here, you can read the press release:
The formal notice was filed on July 30 and now, at the reopening of the Courts after the summer vacation, Lawyer Giuseppe Napoleone filed summons for trial - by both the Company, the riders and staff of Androni-Sidemec - against the two athletes who tested positive for doping: Davide Appollonio and Fabio Taborre.
It is a historic turning point in the fight against doping; in fact, it had never happened in the past that all the members of a team - especially the runners - activate legal proceedings for damages against co-workers.
"For years - said Team Manager Gianni Savio - the fight against doping has been one of the primary goals in the management of our team. We tried to educate - with the teaching of Doctors Vicini and Giorgi, Coaches Lanfranco, Sports Directors Ellena, Miodini, Canciani and Cheula, to prevent - with information courses held by Lawyer Napoleon - and to SUPPRESS - with the establishment of a big fine, provided for in the Internal Rules that all team members have signed in the presence of Notary Marvaso.
We requested and obtained from each athlete the password to access and monitor the values of their Biological Passport and these values were always within normal limits.
We have never put pressure on our athletes, for whom we have prepared a calendar with an adequate number of race days, always agreed between riders, technicians and coaches.
We are confident that we have taken all preventive measures to combat doping. We could not have done more.
Therefore, we will be inflexible with the two irresponsible riders who have broken the rules of our team. Their criminal behavior - I insist on this term because doping is a crime - has caused enormous damage not only to our Company but also to the staff and riders who, for thirty days, could not compete in races.
However, we are used to facing and overcoming adversity, therefore we will never surrender and will always continue to fight with our usual determination and tenacity. "
