The Tour de Romandie opened with a 19.2km team time trial around the Lac de Joux (SUI). With an average pace of 52 km/h, Team Giant-Alpecin raced to 13th.
Team Sky took the win by beating Team Giant-Alpecin’s time by 50 seconds. It was Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) to pass the finish line first as he will start in the yellow jersey at tomorrow’s Stage 2.
Coach Christian Guiberteau reflected on today’s time trial: “I am satisfied with the way the team maintained its formation during the time trial. Especially on the climb the team rode strong and after all we miss a top-10 classification by only 10 seconds.
Looking ahead to the upcoming stages: “Tomorrow will be a difficult stage so I don’t expect a sprint opportunity for Luka (Mezgec). For Tobias (Ludvigsson) it will become a nice day to check his shape and to see if he can compete for a nice GC result here.”
