Roy Curvers sprinted to 15th on stage 2 of the l’Eurometropole Tour as Fredrik Ludvigsson took 34th. Jonas Van Genechten was the fastest in the bunch sprint.
For the second day in a row six riders escaped during the early phase of the race in line that started at the Vélodrome de Roubaix and finished in Poperinge to cover 192km. Lotto Soudal took the initiative to lead the chase and the escapees were caught back in the final kilometers.
Jonas Van Genechten (IAM Cycling) was the fastest today, as Curvers sprinted to 15th place and Ludvigsson took 34th. Alexis Gougeard (AG2R La Mondiale) is still the race leader.
“Our plan was to follow the attacks on the last couple of climbs and save Roy for a final kilometer attack,” explained coach Addy Engels.
“The break was still in the front on the climbs so nothing really happened in the bunch. Roy attacked with 1km to go, but at the same time the sprinter’s team started their lead-outs. In the final corner Roy was still in good position but at the finishing straight many riders passed him and he missed the top 10.”
