Philippe Gilbert will make his comeback next week at the Tour of Luxembourg, having witnessed most of his spring campaign going down the drain following a finger injury after an accident with a motorist.
Meanwhile, Gilbert is trying to secure a contract for the coming seasons. His deal with BMC Racing Team expires in a few months’ time, but the former world road champion is believed to be looking for new employers.
"I am negotiating with several teams, but I have not signed any deal yet. I am getting closer to an agreement," Gilbert told Belgian daily La Dernière Heure.
When quizzed about what will determine his decision, Gilbert was careful not to reveal too much. "I realize that this will be one of my last contracts, so I want to find a team where I can enjoy myself. Maybe a team that has more of a family feel to it."
Gilbert joined BMC Racing Team in 2012 and his triumph at the Worlds that year was arguably his greatest win with the team.
