Philippe Gilbert finished third on Saturday in the Volta Limburg Classic. Together with his BMC teammates, he dominated the race - Floris Gert won - but after, Gilbert was still critical of his own level.
"But my form level is not what it should be," said Gilbert in Het Laatste Nieuws. "This third place should be put in perspective. The participants can not compare with the guys I later face in the Amstel Gold Race and Liège-Bastogne-Liège."
"I have to be honest: to participate in the Amstel Gold Race to win you have to be top, and maybe I'll get to the top level, I needed to race today to build up to "my" classics. Races are still better than training.”
"I have the Brabantse Pijl next week and in Monaco (where Gilbert lives) I still a lot of work to do. I’ll be a lot better."
