World road champion Philippe Gilbert, who made a strong if ultimately unsuccessful attempt to crush the opposition on the Cauberg in Sunday’s Amstel Gold Race, will receive support from a host of climbers on the BMC Racing Team's roster for Flèche Wallonne on Wednesday.
The 205 km race features three ascents of the finishing climb, the Mur de Huy, a 1.3 km cllimb that averages 9.3 percent. Gilbert, who finished fifth Sunday at the Amstel Gold Race, won the Belgian classic in 2011 and finished third last year. Joining him on the team's roster is Tour of Qatar stage winner Brent Bookwalter, 2012 Vuelta a España stage winner Steve Cummings, last year's "best Swiss rider" at the Tour de Suisse, Mathias Frank, and 2010 Paris-Nice king of the mountains champion Amaël Moinard. Marcus Burghardt, Klaas Lodewyck and Dominik Nerz round out the squad.
BMC Racing Team Flèche Wallonne roster:
Brent Bookwalter (USA), Marcus Burghardt (GER), Steve Cummings (GBR), Mathias Frank (SUI), Philippe Gilbert (BEL), Klaas Lodewyck (BEL), Amaël Moinard (FRA), Dominik Nerz (GER).
