With Gustav Larsson having had to put a premature end to his season, Alexander Gingsjö brought the IAM rider's four-year string to an end when he won today's Swedish time trial championships. Big favourite Tobias Ludvigsson (Giant-Shimano) is coming back from injury and could only manage seventh.
Yesterday it emerged that Gustav Erik Larsson had crashed hard in training and would be forced to end his season already at this early point, making him unable to defend his Swedish time trial title today. Alexander Gingsjö exploited the opportunity and brought and end to the his compatriot's four-year streak despite never having finished on the podium before.
On the 50km course in Götene, Gingsjö beat Alexander Wetterhall (FireFighters Uppsala) and Marcus Fåglum Karlsson (Ringeriks Kraft) into the minor spots on the podium. For Wetterhall it was a return to the top 3 after having been on the podium three times earlier in his career.
The big favourite was Tobias Ludvigsson who is coming back from his horrific crash at the Giro d'Italia and the Swede is still far from his best condition. Hence, he could only manage 7th after having finished second twice in a row.
Result:
1. Alexander Gingsjö 1.00.31
2. Alexander Wetterhall +0.57
3. Marcus Fåglum Karlsson +1.23
4. Joakim Åleheim +1.32
5. Edvin Wilson +1.43
