Giro d'Italia organizer RCS Sports is not up for sale, the parent company RCS Media Group announced yesterday. The decision is part of the new business plan (2016-2018) which aims to reduce the debt.
In recent weeks, the future of RCS Sports has been in doubt. According to some Italian business media, three potential buyers had shown interest in a possible acquisition, including Infront Sports & Media owned by China's richest resident Wang Jianlin.
In the business plan of RCS Media Group which was revealed yesterday, the company announced that organization of cycling events remains one of the key areas. Thanks to races like the Giro d'Italia, Dubai Tour and Abu Dhabi Tour, RCS Sport is one of the few profitable divisions of the parent company RCS Media Group.
Laura Cioli, the new CEO of the parent company, is the woman behind the new plan for the future. In addition to organizing the existing cycling and running events (including Milan Marathon , Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-San Remo, Milan-Turin, Giro del Piemonte, Tour of Lombardy), they also want new amateur and mass events. To keep the company healthy , the company will cut the cost of different media titles in Italy and Spain.
