Giro d'Italia director Mauro Vegni has an extremely busy week as he is finalizing the wild card selections for the major RCS races. Before flying to the Netherlands for a series of organizational meeting regarding the Giro's grand depart, he spoke to Tuttobiciweb about the plans for the selection of teams.
"I have a pretty busy week. I have yet to speak to some of our directors but we are now at the finish line. The various considerations have been made and I think that we will make the announcement on Friday and no later than Monday."
His priorities are clear. "We will have an eye on Italy, but not exclusively on Italy."
Vegni has four wild cards available but with at least one of them expected to be given to a foreign team, one of the Italian teams Southeast, Bardiani, Androni and Nippo-Vini Fantini can expect to be left disappointed. Southeast won the Coppa Italia teams classification and so should be guaranteed a spot in their home race.
