It was a solid result by Sonny Colbrelli in the opening stage of Tour of Utah which was harder then expected due to heavy rain and strong wind. 

In the last kilometers three riders emerged from the peloton. They joined two early escapees and together they held on for few seconds. Behind the five attackers who sprinted for the victory, Colbrelli had a good finish, came on the left side of the final straight and took 3rd place in the bunch sprint. 

”It was a tough stage, rain and strong wind all day," he said. "In the finale - thanks to my teammates - I could stay safely in the first positions. Unfortunately,  we missed out by a few seconds in our attempt to catch the late attack by Phinney’s group on the final circuit. I’m still satisfied because after a long stage like this I had enough power in my legs. Tomorrow there’s a new stage that suit  me and I aim to do better”.
