ONE Pro Cycling have announced their roster for the Tour de Langkawi where they will be led by sprinter Matthew Goss and climbers James Oram and John Ebsen.
An 8 day stage race with a UCI 2.HC classification, Le Tour de Langkawi is an event that has occupied a prime position on the Asian Cycling Calendar for many years.
Langkawi, also known as ‘the Jewel of Kedah’ is a cluster of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, approximately 30 km off the mainland coast of Northwestern Malaysia. From Wednesday 24th February to Wednesday 2nd March, 132 riders will be taken on a journey covering a total of 1179 kilometres through West Malaysia from Kangar, Perlis to Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka.
This year in the 21st edition of the event, spectators can expect to witness riders tackle eight grueling days of racing over a variety of terrain through some spectacular scenery. Stage 4 also known as the Queen Stage is said to be this year’s decider for the overall general classification with a composition to test riders capabilities including a ‘Hors Catagorie’ climb to the finish line on Tanah Rata. (*Hors Cat – the hardest rating/score given to any climb).
On Tuesday 23rd February, Twenty-two teams will line up for the Team Presentation including 3 WorldTour, 9 Professional Continental and 10 Continental teams. ONE Pro Cycling will be entering a strong 6 man line up which will see new signings Karol Domagalski and John Ebsen make their official race debut for the team.
Leading on the stage event is Sports Director Phil West commented, “We go to Langkawi with a very mixed team, but more importantly a team that gives us options on every stage and also in the GC. Looking at the parcours it will very much be a race of two halves, with the first few days giving us opportunities for stage wins whilst keeping a close eye on the overall classification. The mountain top finish on Stage 4 will be the decisive day so we’ll look to enter this stage in as strong a position as possible, be really attentive as a team and set ourselves up in a position where we’ll not lose any time.”
