The points classification of the Tour de France will not be an objective for Jose Joaquin Rojas (Movistar Team) this year, even though it was the target for the Murcia rider in his previous appearances in the Grande Boucle.
"Our goal in the Tour de France is doing a good ranking for the team with Alejandro Valverde and my main task will be to help the most," Rojas said.
Rojas made his Tour debut in 2009 finishing 24th and was fourth in the points classification. In 2010 he repeated his 4th overall in the hunt for the green jersey and in 2011 he managed to wear the green jersey for several stages. Last year he crashed out on stage 3 with a fractured left collarbone.
"I was unlucky. Anyway, the green jersey requires a lot of sacrifice at a team level and our priority will always be to help Alejandro and try to find an opportunity to achieve a stage win, "insists Rojas, making clear the main purpose of the telephone team.
At 28 Rojas combines youth and experience and he still maintains his ambition. "Of course I would love to win the green jersey, but as it is something that I cannot contemplate fighting for this year, I prefer a stage win. I've been close to it several times, but still have not succeeded," says Rojas.
