The German Cycling Federation (BDR) has announced the squad for the World Championships. After consultation with team managers Jan Schaffrath and Andreas Klier, both Andre Greipel and Marcel Kittel will head to Doha.
Taking the course into account, the federation has appointed Greipel as captain while Kittel will have a joker role. "This gives us more tactical flexibility," said BDR vice president Udo Sprenger.
André Greipel is looking forward to the challenge at the upcoming World Championships.
"I would like to thank the leaders for the trust they have shown by giving me the leaders. With only six iders, we are not the favorites, but if we all pull together, we have a good chance, "Greipel said.
John Degenkolb, Tony Martin, Nils Politt, Marcel Sieberg and Jasha Sütterlin have also been selected, meaning that one of the riders will be a reserve. Martin, Sütterlin and Politt are in contention for the two time trial spots.
The German team for the Worlds:
