Throughout the year, Marcel Sieberg (Lotto Soudal) was as an important domestique fir André Greipel and so contributed massively to the 16 victories of his best friend with whom he has been riding since 2008. Back then, they rode for HTC-Columbia and in 2011 the pair moved to the Belgian Lotto team where they have formed strong duo ever since.
However, Sieberg did not only play his role in Greipel's sprint train to the full satisfaction of the team management. With his experience, he was also an important factor in the success of the entire team. "My balance sheet for the last season is very positive. I've actually always felt good throughout the year and the 40 victories of our team show how well we have worked," Sieberg told radsport-news.com.
As his personal highlights, the 33-year-old pointed to the Tour de France and the Vattenfall Cyclassics - two races where teammate Greipel did very well. In France, the sprinter won four stages and in his home race in Hamburg he was on the top step of the podium for the first time. "But actually, every victory have been nice," added Sieberg.
There were not many personal results in 2015. For a long time, it seemed that his ninth place in the prologue of the Tour de Luxembourg would be the best result but at the Münsterland Giro (1.HC) in October, he got his chance due to Greipel ‘s absence and sprinted to a fine fifth place.
However, that result does not change his ambitions for 2016. "I want to get safely and healthy through the year and if we can have a similar season to 2015, everything would be tip top," team player Sieberg said.
