Grischa Niermann spent his entire career as a professional rider at Rabobank. He turned pro in 1999 and rode his last race at last year’s Vuelta a España. Now, he is a trainer for the former Rabobank Continental Team’s young riders.
In a statement from the Dutch cycling federation the 37 year old German admits having doped with epo on “a number of occasions” from 2000 to 2003, explaining that it was people close to him who made him realise that doping wasn’t the right path to follow. “The following ten years I have put all my effort into being an example for the young riders of the team as a hard working an clean rider,” he says, adding that he will give all details an information to the Dutch anti-doping commission.
