Australian Adam Hansen wants to keep riding in the Tour de France and continue his extraordinary Grand Tour streak, despite suffering a dislocated shoulder in the chaos of stage two.
"AC dislocation. Same shoulder as three weeks ago. Was told its going to be the most painful three weeks four me. I eat pain for breakfast. Bring it on!", Hansen tweeted.
Hansen has finished the last 11 three-week Grand Tours. The record is 12 in a row, set by Spaniard Bernardo Ruiz between 1954-58. But Hansen was one of three Lotto Soudal riders to crash during the windswept second stage along the Dutch coast from Utrecht to Zeeland. Hansen crashed inside the last 65km.
The Australian has finished every three-week Grand Tour - the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana - since riding in the 2011 Vuelta. It is an astonishing feat in the modern era, given riders only target one or two Grand Tours through a season.
