This year IAM is making its debut in the Tour de France and today the team scored its first ever top 10 in the race. Despite being on his own in the finale, Heinrich Haussler was among the fastest in the bunch sprint on The Mall in London.
The last stage of the 101st Tour de France to take place in Britain was won in a sprint by Marcel Kittel (Giant Shimano), while Vincenzo Nibali (Astana) retained his yellow jersey. For its part, IAM Cycling celebrated its first top-10 in a stage with Heinrich Haussler.
Eddy Seigneur, acting as directeur sportif of the Swiss team along with Kjell Carlström, was satisfied with the team’s day.
“Heinrich Haussler earned the best possible outcome under the circumstances. Roger Kluge had punctured and so could not help him out in the sprint. Heino managed on his own and could not have done anything better. But we have claimed our first good result before returning to the French roads, and we avoided any bad luck especially over the roads that had become slippery with rain in the last kilometers. Jérôme Pineau did find himself on the ground at one point, but came away with only superficial wounds.”
Before hopping the plane to France, Mathias Frank was happy that this first part of the Tour was over.
“Today we still raced in difficult conditions. The rain came near the end and is was pretty chilly with slippery roads. Luck was on our side, and I am happy to be returning to French soil. Another type of race starts now, even if it won’t necessarily be any easier.”
