The sprinters in the Giro d'Italia had to wait for some days, but today they might get a new chance. The 183 kilometres long stage between Montecatini Terme and Castiglione della Pescaia is mainly flat, it’s only hilly in the middle. It’s more than likely that some riders will set up a breakaway, but several teams will want to end the stage with a bunch sprint, also Lotto Soudal.

Lead-out man Greg Henderson explains:

“We aim for a bunch sprint with André Greipel. We have to try to get André as fresh as possible into the last 200 metres, in the first five positions, without him riding already three or four sprints to get in a good position. Before the last three kilometres the teams of the GC riders set a really high pace, so we don’t have to appear at the front any earlier. The plan with Adam Hansen and me on Sunday worked pretty well, so we’ll try that again today.”
