Barry Markus notched up a top ten finish today in the Nokere Koerse-Danilith Classic. The Dutch Team LottoNL-jumbo rider ended seventh after almost two-hundred kilometres of twisting and turning in Belgium, between Deinze and Nokere.
Belgian Kris Boeckmans (Lotto) was the fastest sprinter and won, Frenchman Justin Jules of Veranclassic-Ekoi and Brit Scott Twaithes of Bora-Argon18 took the other two spots on the podium.
“We actually wanted to try with Moreno Hofland in the sprint, but the men lost each other in the run-up,” Sports Director Frans Maassen explained.
“Moreno was isolated in the sprint because of that and so Barry gave it a go himself.”
“I went off the road twice in the final three kilometres,” Hofland explained. “That cost me many places, too many places, and so I just finished in the middle of the peloton. Too bad because my legs felt good today.”
He will now travel to Italy for Sunday’s Milano-Sanremo.
