Chris Horner may only be sitting in 17th in the overall standings of the Tour de France but the American still plans to give it a go in tomorrow's time trial. The Vuelta champion hopes to gain 52 seconds on Brice Feillu and move into 16th.
Chris Horner entered the Tour de France short on form after a horrific crash had forced him to miss the Giro d'Italia and he has mainly used the race to build condition for his Vuelta title defence. Hence, it is no surprise that he goes into the final time trial in 17th in the overall standings.
Nonetheless, the American promises to go full gas in a discipline that has never been among his favourites.
"Tomorrow's time trial is not suitable for my characteristics, but this doesn't mean that I won't give my best," he said. "I'll be at the start with the goal of defending my 17th place. If I will have good feelings, I'll even try to go closer to Feillu's 16th place, that is less than 1' away from me. I know it will be difficult but I will try.
For his teammate Davide Cimolai, today's rainy stage ended as a big disappointment. The Italian had planned to do the sprint but was held up in the late crash.
"What a missed chance! I was in fifth position in the bunch chasing Navardauskas when Sagan crashed," he said. "He hit me and I had to stop pedaling. Without this crash, I'm sure I would have obtained a top result".
