After his dramatic crash, Chris Horner has finally left the hospital in Lecco and has now returned home to continue his recovery. The American cyclist is happy to have survived the accident that could have had tragic consequence, and hopes to return to a competitive level in time for either the Tour of the Vuelta.
In the afternoon of Wednesday April A6, Chris Horner left the Lecco hospital where he has stayed since April 11 after being victim of an accident while he was training on roads near the Como Lake.
The American cyclist that was left with a punctured lung, four broken ribs, cuts in his head and bruises on the elbow, was authorized to return to his Como house, considering that the lung drainage was completed.
Horner, whose wife is in Italy to support him, will be constantly monitored by the medical staff from Lampre-Merida.
"I'm happy I can come back home," he said. "It was a bad experience, but I also think I was lucky. The crash could have had worse consequences. I thank everyone who supported me, especially nurses and doctors in the hospital and all the members of my team.
"I still feel pains when I move, I know I must be patient. I hope I can soon start to train on the rollers."
