Former world champion on the track Leigh Howard has finish sixth from a late break at the Prudential RideLondon Surrey Classic today.
Howard represented ORICA-GreenEDGE in the eight-rider move that formed in the last 40km of racing.
After a series of attacks from within, four riders fought it out in a final sprint, Jempy Drucker (Team BMC) the victor. At the end of 200km of racing, Howard finished four seconds behind in sixth position.
“Leigh had a great ride today,” sport director Matt White said. “He saw and took his opportunity at the right time.
“Once the right group got away, especially one that had all WorldTour team represented, it was always going to be hard for any team to shut down with just six rider lineups.
“In the end he didn’t quite have the legs to contest in the final but he fought on and it was a really good ride.”
