It has been on the cards for a while now but Thor Hushovd has confirmed that he will not ride for BMC Racing Team in 2015. The Norwegian has not delivered as desired after he was signed in 2012 although he has recaptured some good form since last August but it wasn’t enough for him to have his contract renewed.
Hushovd relayed the details to TV 2 of the phonecall he received that informed him he would no longer be part of the team.
“They have already said they will not renew the contract, so I'm not going to ride for BMC,” Hushovd said. “It was a strange phone call to get. I have been accustomed to all teams wanting me, and suddenly now they say that I'm not interesting, so it is clear there is a slight letdown.”
Thus, the 36-year-old is now looking for new team, and already there are rumors, with IAM Cycling believed to be among the hottest candidates. Hushovd is also clear that he does not feel finished as a pro rider.
“No, I do not. I felt crazy good last fall. I guess I was the rider who won the most bike races last fall, and I have been there or there abouts this year too, so I'm not finished, but I need to keep working,” he adds.
What this will mean in terms of the squad for the Tour de France remains to be seen and whether it will prevent Hushovd from taking part is unknown.
