Bartosz Huzarski defended his surprise 15th against the high-level field in Tirreno-Adriatico in today's final time trial of Tirreno-Adriatico. The strong performance by Pole made it a good race for Team NetApp-Andura that also saw Sam Bennett take 4th in the first sprint stage.
The last stage of the Italian Tirreno-Adriatico tour was held today as individual time trials. The course, just 9.1 kilometers long, was flat and technically not very demanding. Today’s race thus had little influence on the overall classification. The Italian Adriano Malori (Movistar) emerged as the winner in the race against the clock, relegating the individual time trial specialist Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory) and the Briton Bradley Wiggins (Sky) to second and third place. Tiago Machado ended the individual time trial as the best NetApp-Endura rider, 0:38 seconds behind today's winner.
The overall classification remained unchanged, with Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) leading, followed by Nairo Quintana (Movistar) and Roman Kreuziger (Tinkoff-Saxo). Bartosz Huzarski was able to defend his 15th position in the overall classification with a good individual time.
“That was a good time trial result from Bartosz, as well from Tiago and David [De La Cruz], today. Tiago and David in particular produced solid performances, when you consider that the course was very flat and quick, and more for rouleurs. All in all, we can be quite satisfied with 15th place in the overall classification,” was sports director Enrico Poitschke’s summary of the tour.
“Paul Voss didn’t even start today. He’s been rather shaky all week and had to force himself every day. We decided to give him an additional day to recover before he goes into the Milan-Saint Remo on the weekend,” explained Poitschke.
After the race, the team will immediately transfer to San Remo in order to use next few days to inspect the route. They will pay particular attention here to the last climbs, the Cipressa and the Poggio.
