IAM has announced its roster for the Vuelta a Espana and will not bring any riders that participated in the recent Tour de France. With suppport from Sebastien Hinault and Vicente Reynes, the team will be focusing on Matteo Pelucchi in the sprint finishes while Johann Tschopp and the talented Jonathan Fumeaux will get their chance to shine in the mountains.
IAM Cycling named the nine riders it will send to the 2014 Tour of Spain (August 23rd to September 14th), which will be starting in Jerez de la Frontera. Participating in its second grand tour of the 2014 season, the Swiss Pro Continental team is ready to tackle the new challenge and anxious to give some of its young riders opportunities to shine.
Michel Thétaz, founder of IAM Cycling and CEO of IAMFUNDS.CH, has reiterated his willingness and his determination to build a powerful Swiss-based team for years to come. The Swiss emphasis is evident in the fact that five of the nine cyclists named to the Vuelta team come from Switzerland.
But nationality was not the only consideration since the sports management took into account the current fitness level of the riders as well as the strategic interests that the team will have throughout the Tour of Spain. As a result, they have gathered together a group of riders eager to perform well in not only the mountain stages but also the stages reserved for the attackers and sprinters.
