IAM Cycling suffered a bad end to the day on Thursday over the Italian roads of the Giro.
Matteo Pelucchi arrived at the finish line at the top of Roccaraso 46 seconds after the allotted time limit set by the jury of commissioners. As a result, the Italian sprinter for the Swiss professional team found that he would have to be sent home before the end of the first week of racing.
As for Larry Warbasse, he will not take the start this morning in Sulmona for the 7th stage of the Giro d’Italia. The American rider has been suffering the last three days from back pain with indications of an irritation at the nerve root. This ailment has been preventing him from giving his best performance, and will negate any chance of continuing the race in good condition.
IAM Cycling’s Warbasse will travel to Geneva to visit the University Hospital (HUG) there in order to undergo additional tests that will enable the effective treatment of his condition. The medical team and the sports management will then agree upon a date when he will be able to return to competition.
