IAM Cycling continues its careful preparation throughout the 2015 season in the WorldTour in order to be able to satisfy its ambitions.  The majority of the riders who are not taking part in the Giro or the Tour of Bavaria have been participating in an altitude training camp at Engadine under the direction of MarcelloAlbasini.

Living at the hotel l’Hospice de La Bernina, which is located at 2300 meters above sea level, the group of riders can choose to train over routes in Switzerland or Italy, depending on which side has the better weather.

Responsible for monitoring the performance of the riders on the Swiss professional team, Marcello Albasinihas planned various types of workouts for his group.

“After two days of getting acclimated, the riders will have a lot of work to do.  This training camp at La Bernina is all about working on intensities, and not so much on endurance at this point since we are approaching some major objectives for the season.  And then when the camp is finished, we will head to reconnoiter three stages of the Tour de France in the Pyrenees along with Mathias Frank, Jarlinson Pantano and Marcel Wyss.”

Albasini, who comes from the Thurgau region in Switzerland, explained why they chose to come to Bernina for their camp:

“We sleep at 2300 meters and have the chance to take any number of cycling routes depending on the weather.  Every day, the guys are expected to cover some 3000 meters of altitude in order to get in the proper amount of work.  At the beginning of this week, we rode in the Engadine area where there are a lot of mountain passes, but since snow is forecasted for Friday, we will head to Valteline where the weather is warmer and there is also plenty to do in terms of climbing.”

Training camp at La Bernina (Monday, May 11th to Monday, May 25th)
