On the third day of racing in Florence, Belgian Igor Decraene won the individual time trial championship after a hotly contested battle against Dane Simon Krigbaum.

Although the gap between the two main protagonists wasn’t as nerve-wreckingly close as in the Men’s elite team time trial, the level of excitement was high as the two went to-to-toe to decide who would walk away with the honours.

American Mostov Zeke took an early lead, negotiating the 22.1 km parcours in 27.17.80. The American looked to have set an unassailable time, but former European time trial champion Krigbaum bested his time by 12 seconds

All the Dane had to do was sit back and await the arrival of Decraene. The Belgian was consistently faster than the Dane, albeit by very slim margins. In the end he crossed the line having spent 8 seconds less than Krigbaum.
