Tinkoff-Saxo’s squad at the French one-day race of Paris-Bourges finished the day without a significant result, as Michael Kolar took 17th place in the final sprint. The team ambitions were hampered, as designated team captain Matti Breschel suffered from a cold leading up to and during the race that was won by Sam Bennett.
After the race conclusion, Tinkoff-Saxo sports director Lars Michaelsen says that the team had turned its attention to the race finale, as calm weather made it difficult to open up the race from the distance.
“There’s not a lot to report on for our part today. We didn’t deliver today. Kolar was our protected rider today and we saved him for the sprint after we found out that Breschel wasn’t feeling better. Our guys were there but they were not able to transfer their effort into a top result”, tells Lars Michaelsen about the 186.2km race before adding:
“We were there in the run-in towards the finish but with about two kilometers remaining our position slipped and we didn’t manage to regain momentum to position Kolar. Now we have two days before our last race of the season Paris-Tours and we naturally hope that Breschel will get better and flip the situation around”.
