For the third consecutive day, Adrian Kurek was in the escape  and again put on the king of the mountains jersey at the Tour de Pologne.

"I felt fine before the start, so I decided to try to attack one more time. I was very motivated and I took off right after the gun. I really wanted to take the most active rider classification jersey but sometimes things don’t go the way you would like to. I was upset with how things unfolded at the first srint. I started the sprint from too far back and I was unable to overtake my rivals. Also, after two days in the break, my legs were not as dynamic as they were at the beginning of the race," Adrian Kurek explained afterwards.

“The team and I decided to attack again today, especially to capture important points for the cyclamen jersey but also for the blue jersey; these are two important goals for us. Now we are expecting two very difficult stages, but we are definitely going to try to hang on to this jersey, with me or with one of my team mates, as long as possible.

"Regarding my plan for the next days – it’s hard to say. Of course I would like to maintain the jersey all the way to Cracow, but I’ve been in three breakaways already and big mountains are still ahead of us. I hope that if I lose the lead, it will be my teammate who takes it over."

Adrian Kurek was part of the first breakaway attempt. He attacked with Matej Mohoric (Cannondale-Garmin), Marcus Burghardt (BMC Racing), Ian Boswell (Sky) and Marcin Białobłocki (Poland). Later, also Kamil Gradek decided to join the group. At first he was chasing solo, but then Białobłocki waited for him and helped him bridge across.

The leading six established a 2-minute gap and the peloton was keeping an eye on the escape the entire time. The cooperation in the leading group was not going very well, since some riders wanted to go clear several times. None of those early moves were successful though.

Three intermediate sprints were located on the Stage 3 route. Adrian Kurek collected two points in the last one. Gradek took the first, and Białobłocki was the fastest in the other two. The CCC Sprandi Polkowice rider managed to gain three more points on the cat. 3 climb and he extended his lead in the KOM classification (12 points, 8 more then Martijn Keizer). In the most active rider classification, he has 6 points (2 less than leader Białobłocki).

Before entering the circuits in Katowice, the escape started to break apart. First it was Gradek and Burghardt who got dropped. With 20 kilometers to go Białobłocki and Boswell went away, and Kurek with Mohoric fell back to the bunch. Eventually the Polish TT champion attacked by himself and the Sky rider was also reeled in. Białobłocki got caught 4 kilometers from the line and the stage was decided in a fast-speed bunch sprint.

As usual, the final straight on Katowice was going downhill. The sprinters fired their cylinders, but it was Matteo Pelucchi (IAM Cycling) who was the fastest. He outsprinted Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek) and Tom Van Asbroeck (Team LottoNL-Jumbo). Maciej Paterski finished in 20th place and sits 15th overall.
