Ag2r La Mondiale finished the Etoile de Béssèges in the south of France with an amazing team performance in the final time trial won by Bob Jungels (Trek Factory). Neo-pro Pierre-Roger Latour finished 5th, Alexis Gougeard, 7th and Hugo Houle 11th.Gougeard was 4th overall and Latour 7th.
"It’s a great team result with some of our youngest riders," sports director Stephane Goubert said. "When he has a race number on, Alexis is like a super hero, putting on his cape. We felt during the training camps that Pierre-Roger has a real potential. Hugo confirms his third place in the Tour de San Luis time trial. Our new generation has ambitions and it will benefit the whole team."
For his second professional race after GP La Marseillaise last Sunday, Pierre-Roger Latour, 22, is satisfied.
"I am happy. The first professional race is an unknown. The first days are impressive. It was tense every day because of the the strong wind and the cold but the team protected Alexis and me perfectly."
"I am happy with my time trial," he added in an interview with Directvelo. "It reassures me about my form. As long as you train, you do not really know where you are in competition. I felt good this week, and it's even better to do a good time trial because it really is every man for himself in this exercise.
"I have always liked the time trial, especially those likes this one with a small climb at the end. When the course is rolling, I can't match the big rouleurs.
"I learned a lot this week, especially about echelons and positioning. My teammates have advised me well. I think this experience will allow me to avoid some mistakes in the future.
"On Thursday, I am leaving for a team training camp. Then I will participate in one or both races of the Drôme-Ardèche. There are some interesting routes and it will be nice for me to ride in my area."
"I did a good first part of the time trial, the second uphill was more difficult for me," Gougeard told Directvelo. "I am satisfied with my time compared to my current condition. It will get better as they days go on. I will continue to work. You always want to do better.
"I know I have a fairly large room for improvement, especially on weight. I'm going to work on that area. It's true that this is my big problem. I tell myself that I would have been much faster today with a few kilos less. It is a disappointment to have too much weight and lose ground on the final climb. At the end of February, I will attend the Belgian classics. I will arrive there in good shape."
