BMC Racing Team's Jempy Drucker finished fourth in the bunch sprint that concluded Monday's 158.4-kilometer stage of the Vuelta a España.
Riding a grand tour for the first time, Drucker placed behind stage winner Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo), Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis, Solutions Credits) and John Degenkolb (Team Giant-Alpecin).
"We told Jempy this morning in the meeting that if he had good legs, he should try in the sprint," BMC Racing Team Sport Director Yvon Ledanois said. "We talked with him in the last 30 kilometers and he said he was feeling good."
It was Drucker's 10th top-five finish in a season that has been highlighted by a win earlier this month at the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic.
Esteban Chaves (ORICA-GreenEDGE) kept the overall lead ahead of Tom Bumoulin (Team-Giant-Alpecin) as there were no changes at the top of the overall classification.
