Five days after taking the biggest pro win of his career in the Tour de Suisse, Alexey Lutsenko (Astana) again underlined his good condition by winning the Kazakh time trial championships. The former U23 road race champion beat his teammate, defending champion Daniil Fominykh, into second while Zhandos Bizhigitov (Vino4Ever) completed the podium.

Alexey Lutsenko rose to fame in 2012 when he became U23 road race champion but since he turned professional he has had most successin the time trials. He took his first pro win less than a year ago when he won the Tour of Denmark TT and has always been a strong time triallist.

Having missed most of the spring season due to injury, he showed that he is back in good condition by taking a great stage win in the Tour de Suisse last Saturday. Today he was back in TT action at the Kazakh championships where he emerged as the fastest in Petropavlovsk, beating defending champion Daniil Fominykh.

Lutsenko has a chance to make it two in a row when he lines up as the favourite for the road race championships on Sunday. Astana hope to take back the title after they lost grip of the jersey last year.
