"I tried to chase behind Pozzovivo in the last 2km but I didn’t find enough support from the other riders. Anyway I can be pleased with my performance today. I felt that my shape is improving really well."

The positive moment for the Bardiani climbers continued in the 39th Giro del Trentino that offered a big mountain stage with 5 climbs.

After young Simone Andreetta had been in an early breakaway of 15 riders and an attack by Manuel Bongiorno on the steep Passo Redebus with 20km to go, the stage was decided on the final climb to Fierozzo Val Dei Mòcheni. At the bottom four riders still led the race with the main group 40 seconds behind. With 4km to go, Edoardo Zardini tried to join the escapees but Team Sky gave no space. Pirazzi also attacked, following Cunego’s move. It looked like a good attempt but was Porte closed ti down.

With 2km to go, the winning attack came from Pozzovivo who took a solo win. Pirazzi tried to chase but the climber of AG2R La Mondiale took the stage by holding off Landa (Astana) and GC leader Porte by 5 seconds. The Bardiani – CSF duo Zardini and Pirazzi finished just 20 seconds behind in 12th and 13th positions respectively.

”It was a really demanding stage, we went full gas from the start because a strong rider like Bardet attacked on the first climb," Pirazzi said. "Despite this situtation, the race was decided in the final part of the last climb. After an attack by Edoardo (Zardini), I tried with Cunego. It could be the winning move but Porte jumped a few metres behind us. Anyway I didn’t give up. I tried to chase behind Pozzovivo in the last 2km but I didn’t find enough support from the other riders. Anyway I can be pleased with my performance today. I felt that my shape is improving really well. Let 'ssee what happens tomorrow, maybe we can find the space to attack again”.
