In late April, the inaugural Tour of Croatia will take place. The organizers hope to turn the event into an important preparation for the Giro d'Italia.
A new UCI race that will take place in Croatia in the end of April, 2015, has been announced. The organizer is former Alessio, Liquigas and Acqua & Sapone rider, Vladimir Miholjevic who found the necessary support to hold a six-day race at the 2.1 level. The main sponsor of the event will be the Ministry of Tourism in Croatia while Eurosport will be showing highlights from the race, allowing the country to promote its landscapes and beautiful cycling terrain.
The race will be held from April 21-26 with 20 teams, including 8 from the WorldTour. The budget is 2 million euros, with half of it being used for the tv coverage. The stages will go between the following cities: Dubrovnik - Peljesac, Makarska - Split, Sibenik - Nin, Lago Plitvice - Monte Vojak, Umag - Pula and Varazdin - Zagreb. The fourth leg between Lago Plitivice and Monte Vojak will be the queen stage and goes over 228km and 3,600 m of altitude. Miholjevic wants his race to be the final preparation for riders that are targeting the Giro d'Italia which starts on May 9.
