The five time Tour the France champion Miguel Indurain has denied the rumors circulating in the Spanish media linking him with a Fernando Alonso Cycling Team, to kick off in the 2015 season.
An article published in the Spanish press on Monday suggested that Indurain has received a particular offer to join the management side of the future team, but even though the former Tour the France champion was reported to be friends with Alonso for many years, both parties have denied this rumors.
"I haven’t received an offer. That’s not correct," Indurain told Cyclingnews when contacted via telephone.
Differently than many renowned cyclists after finishing their professional careers, Indurain has never held a managerial position in the team and enjoyed a quiet life after racing, only occasionally agreeing to play the role of a guest of some squads for particular races and working as a consultant for some newspapers for a certain period of time. In addition, GP Miguel Indurain, an annual one-day race in his name is held in Navarre.
