Jon Izagirre (Euskaltel-Euskadi) ripped the yellow jersey off Rafal Majka (Saxo-Tinkoff) by the very slender margin of just one second in the Tour de Pologne today thanks to the bonus seconds he was able to pick up on the stage.
Afterwards Izagirre explained that he benefitted from the fact that he has been able to translate his Tour de France form into a consistent showing in the Polish stage race.
"The fact that I have been able to sustain my form from the Tour de France is certainly helping me right now,” Izagirre explained. “I finished the Tour in a nice shape and the pace of competition with which I have come to Poland is good. If I had been too fatigued, I wouldn’t be wearing this yellow tunic," Izagirre noted cheerfully.
While enjoying his lead, Izagirre could not help thinking of the day tomorrow.
"I'm happy with what we have achieved and I'm enjoying it, but I think about tomorrow's undulating stage. It’s the sixth stage of the race and in all likelihood it will be very difficult to control. I will just have to see how my legs respond and how the race develops. The stage will endlessly alternate between ups and downs, but I think the latter part of the stage is the hardest,” Izagirre analyzed.
