In 2011 Brian Holm had a difficult decision to make. Should he continue as directeur sportif or switch careers and become an agent? During the Tour de France negotiations were intense, and it was revealed that Holm’s employer, HTC-Highroad, would close down, although they were the most victorious team of the season. The succesful Dane had to find a new job. In the end, he chose to continue as directeur sportif, this time for Omega Pharma-QuickStep.
Whether Brian Holm will ever work as an agent is still uncertain. But if the Dane were to advise a talent objectively, he believes that Sebastian Lander has made a wise choice.
”It doesn’t get much better than that,” states Brian Holm to CyclingQuotes.com who met the directeur sportif in Gent, Belgium.
”It’s a great team. I know Tejay van Garderen and my old colleague Allan Pieper has joined them as well. The team is not under a lot of pressure, and their results can sometimes be a testatment to that. They have been around for many years, and I really like the team. BMC is as good as it gets. If I had a son asking for advice, I would recommend BMC where riders are given the chance to seek personal glory. They are quite laid-back. George Hincapie was part of the team, and they never came under pressure. Nobody was screaming at them if they performed poorly."
