In his first year at Team Sky, Beñat Intxausti (1986) will get his chance in one-week stage races and act as a key domestique for Mikel Landa in the Giro d'Italia.
Intxausti has revealed his schedule for the first half of 2016 to BiciCiclismo: one or two days of Challenge to Majorca (28 to 31 January), Volta a la Valenciana (February 3-7), Vuelta a Andalucia (February 17-21), Tirreno-Adriatico (March 9-15), Vuelta al Pais Vasco (April 4-9) and Giro d'Italia (May 6-29). In the time from the end of the Basque race and the Italian grand tour, his intention is to join his team at a training camp on Mount Teide for two weeks.
Intxausti has joined Sky after five seasons at Movistar Team. He finished the season at the Tour of Britain on September 13, and next year will do four one-week stage races, Valencia, Andalusia, Tirreno and the Basque Country. In 2010, he got his breakhthrough in the Basque race when he finished second behind Chris Horner - Alejandro Valveerde was stripped from his second place - and in 2015 he joined Chris Froome and Alberto Contador on the podium in the Ruta del Sol.
He will also return to the Giro, a race in which he has won two stages, in Ivrea in 2013 when he also wore the maglia rosa and finished 8th, and in Campitello Matese this year, just ahead of Landa. In 2016, Landa will have Intxausti at his side after his third place this year. It will be the first time the pair will ride together as Landa joined Euskaltel-Euskadi, in 2011 just when Intxausti moved to Movistar.
In 2015 Intxausti was also second in the Vuelta a Castilla y León and the GP Miguel Indurain and fourth behind Froome, Tejay van Garderen and Rui Costa in the Dauphiné, just five seconds from the podium.
