Ion Izaguirre, a new signing of Movistar Team, will start his 2014 in Tour of Dubai, and will have Paris-Nice and Vuelta a Espana as his main goals, the rider says in a Movistar team video.
After winning a stage in Giro 2012, Izaguirre caught more attention of cycling world last year, with a 4th placed finish in Tour Down Under, and second place in Tour de Pologne. "At the moment I'm focusing on the early season. In my Euskaltel days, I went to Australia in early season. And now, I'll race the Paris-Nice. I raced well in WorldTour races, but Paris-Nice is not the same as Tour Down Under or Tour de Pologne." says Izaguirre.
Although Ion Izaguirre may have changed a team, he really don't seem to have any problem. "To adapt in the best team in the world is rapid and easy." He came to the new team along with his brother Gorka, and that helps, too. "Since the first day here, I feel at home." says Izaguirre, "My goal is to continue progressing and help leaders, Valverde and Quintana."
Izaguirre also confirms that he will only have one grand tour in his 2014 schedule, Vuelta a Espana. And one of his priorities is to improve time trial. "You have to train your muscles to be accustomed to the position you take. Last year I could not train as much as I would have liked. I'm going to try training every week this year, to improve my position and power."
