Eli Iserbut has taken the first win at the European Cyclocross Championships in the German city of Lorsch. He took the gold medal in the junior race while his compatriot Jappe Jaspers claimed the silver medal

Eli Iserbyt has been at the start of seven cyclo-cross races this year and he has been first across the line every time. In Lorsch, he took the lead right from the start and led the race from the first lap.

Behind Iserbyt, Jappe Jaspers did a great work to protect his teammate. He and Swiss Johan Jacobs - who actually has a Belgian father - never got any closer.

In the finale, Jaspers dropped Jacobs to take the silver. Dutchman Max Gulickx battled against Jacobs for the bronze medal, but due to a crash he saw his podium chances come to nothing.

Iserbyt follows Yannick Peeters on the honours list. He is the fourth Belgian to win the title as Vincent Baestaens and Niels Albert have both taken the win in the past.

"I am proud of this title," Iserbyt told Sporza. "As early as in the first lap, I got a little gap and then I just had to maintain my speed. Due to a mistake by tje jury, it was a long European Chmapionships: 50 minutes instead of 40. But fortunately I has a big lead. I just feel very good this season. I have again made progress and choose my races carefully. Tomorrow  I will start in Ruddervoorde. I do not know if my team already has made a European jersey. Otherwise I will wear my Belgian jersey. The title doesn't change much. I keep the feet on the ground."

Result:

1. Eli Iserbyt (Bel) in 49'35 "
2. Jappe Jaspers (Bel) - 47 "
3. Johan Jacobs (Swi) - 51 "
4. Max Gulickx (Ned) - 52 "
5. Simon Andreassen (Den) - 1'13 "
