Members of the Associazione Italiana Medici del Ciclismo (Association of Italian Cycling Doctors), riders and their agents have met recently to discuss rules to help the riders remain safe in extreme weather conditions.
Filippo Pozzato and Ivan Basso gave their thoughts at the annual AIMEC meeting in Varese, giving their experiences of racing against the extreme snow and heat in events. UCI doctor Mario Zorzoli and head of Italian Riders Association Cristian Salvato also gave a talk at the meeting.
Cyclingnews understands that the UCI and the AIGCP teams association are discussing the introduction of rules to regulate racing in extreme conditions.
The last two editions of the Giro d’Italia have seen snow and bad weather while the 2014 Vuelta a Espana’s first week and the Tour of California experienced severe heat this year.
