Tormod Jacobsen (Øster Hus) took a surprise victory at the Norwegian road race championships when he emerged as the fastest from a 6-rider group in the finale. He beat Filip Eidsheim (FixIT) and Odd Christian Eiking (Team Joker) in the sprint to take the biggest victory in his career.
Ever since Kurt Asle Arvesen won the title in 2008, the Norwegian champion's jersey has been worn by major WorldTour stars but for the next year it won't be the case. Tormod Jacobsen took a surprise victory in today's road race championships to succeed Thor Hushovd as the country's leading cyclist.
All eyes were on Alexander Kristoff and Lars Petter Nordhaug in the race for the jersey but none of them were present when a six-rider group emerged in the finale. With the assistance of teammate Frederik Galta, Jacobsen managed to come away with the win after a very close sprint that saw Filip Eidsheim finish second while the only WorldTour rider in the group Vegard Breen (Lotto) had to settle for fourth.
The win is by far the biggest in Jacobsen's career.
Result:
1. Tormod Jacobsen
2. Filip Eidsheim
3. Odd Christian Eiking
4. Vegard Breen
5. Frederik Galta
